Bullet Space - Manhattan, New York
This is probably one of the most interesting spaces I've ever been in. What started out as a tenement building hosting 90 people at the turn of the century became a home to squatters in the late 80's. The squatters eventually stayed in the building long enough and was given ownership by the city for the price of 1$.
All of the squatters were artists that created their own stoves for heat and built running utilities throughout the house themselves. We got the chance to meet one of the residents who gave us a tour and showed us all of the artifacts they had found from the tenements.
Today Bullet Space is still an open art gallery with many different rotating artists and functions. A lot of history was witnessed and recorded here and the gallery is a huge part of the lower east side culture.
