good news is there are fewer flies in the kitchen. bad news is a) there are still a lot in there and b) they seem to be migrating to other rooms in the apartment as well. permanently icky feeling.

I find ants fascinating (social systems, behavior, feelers, chemical messaging systems, etc.) and even a little cute at a distance. the really tiny black ones y'know, moving their antennae around and crawling in lines. I was reading about how some kinds of ants disinfect other ants' damaged limbs and then amputate them, if necessary - hence the research on whether bugs feel pain. it was really interesting, and I would like to read the source article when I'm not trying to sleep.
anyway, seeing a whole swarm of ants going for something, especially in my apartment, does (unfortunately) make my skin crawl. sometimes even looking at one single abt can freak me out, especially the bigger ones. my mom uses cinnamon oil to keep them out, I think, to varying degrees of success. maybe I'll try that if we get them this warm season. I don't remember them being a problem last year, unlike in my previous apartment. this is good because my autistic sense of smell is overwhelmed by the cinnamon oil my mom uses. gives me a headache.
Apparently people buy ladybugs to release into their yards to kill aphids.

The bugs are cute little babies but theyre gonna kill this dude and then fuck up the entire ecosystem of the planet and add to the list of the SGP's crimes. They're on a planet they colonized and theu PURPOSEFULLY brought back biological weapons specifically designed to destroy ecosystems and they thibk nothing is going to go wrong.
