Hey, I was having a scroll through your data and just wanted to say I found it really interesting how sometimes the top character order (and probably a couple of other things) swap around between the near synonym tags for the same fandom! Also thank you for your work doing this, and sorry to see that you're getting grief for your unedited raw data. Really looking forward to seeing your stats and analysis for Femslash February! :)
Yeah, I noticed the same thing! :D In some cases, it’s a function of two tags having almost identical numbers, but not always, I think… I suspect sometimes different ships or subfandoms probably tend to use different versions of the fandom tag. It could be really interesting to dig deeper into this – and into related topics, like how the different versions of tags (for fandoms, characters, etc with multiple tags) have changed in popularity over time.
Also, thank you for your kind words! <3 I really enjoy doing this stuff, and hope others will also find the data useful. :D I’m not actually getting any direct grief, fortunately… I’m just always a bit sad when I see people misunderstanding and then Tumblr amplifying that misunderstanding through a bunch of reblogs. But it’s kind of unavoidable on this platform. And the corresponding upside is that a wide audience can find this work and use the data or join the conversation, which often leads to awesome things. :)
