My previous job in the City allowed me to tick a lot of boxes on my bucket list, one of which was to take my bike to the Bonneville Salt Flats and break an existing Land Speed record. Dick Smith from Barons Speed Shop built the bike for me and we all decamped to Wendover in Utah for the BUB Speed Trials. This was August 2013. To say it was a challenge was an understatement. Everyone who is there for the first time has to learn everything about density altitude to tyre pressures to salt conditions etc etc. Sometimes we queued for over 3 hours to run in 100f heat, and during that time the density altitude could change as cloud cane over, or when away. Constant re-jetting. We never felt we reached our potential that week, even though we broke an existing record. However the experience will live with me for ever, and hope to return one day and use the knowledge we gained from that week to better our still standing record by a considerable margin. It was Dick from Barons Speed Shop who introduced me to I Cleenz Macheenz. I have used them for every single one of my projects and in February this year, after retiring from the City, I bought the firm I had been so impressed with over the years. The previous owners and staff are all still in the family, and we are growing from strength to strength.
