#brutal..

that’s a question in itself, isn’t it. if they had ever loved her. 

did they love her when she was just a baby? she’d been a disappointment since birth, of course; not the son they wanted. but she was a child, just an infant in her mother’s arms. 

did they hate her even then? 

she tries to remember a time her mother held her and finds that no moment comes to mind. she wonders if the woman stopped as soon as beau could stand on her own two feet. 

she tries to imagine what it would feel like. 

and to have her mother look at her with warmth........ she thinks of how marion looked at jester and tries to overlay that expression onto her mother’s cold features. 

her mind can’t even conjure it. 

and then her father... 

him- him she can’t even remember with a smile, with anything other than detachment or disdain. and she wonders if he’s even capable of loving the son they now have, the son he always wished she was. 

it’s hard to picture. it’s hard to think of how and when her parents could have ever loved her. how the man who had her taken in the night, afraid and fighting, screaming as she was dragged, could possibly love her. how the woman who wrote her that letter, tone as cold in writing as in person, could possibly love her. 

really, the answer is obvious.
