Los Angeles
LA is pretty rad. I was a little nervous at first because the city looked so huge, but having my friend here as my guide is great. Everyone is very chill and non-judgmental and it’s a very relaxing attitude. I guess there’s something to be said for basically constant summer. And no fewer than three people have given me the ‘you’re one hour away from snowboarding, and one hour away from the beach!’ line :)
So far in LA I have:
- Woken up at 2 am and 7 am, and it’s quieter outside at 7.
- Gone to a little cafe called Birdie’s that made my heart happy <3
- Santa Monica for the day! The pier was touristy and awesome and the ferris wheel was out of this world!
- Also a little place called Bruno’s in Santa Monica has the best Gnocchi Pesto I’ve ever tasted.
- I put my feet in the Pacific ocean!!!
Longer LA post (with pictures) to come, but this has been f*cking awesome so far. ✌
also @iamhalseymusic is here at the same time as me and that feels like fate

My Journal to Self Improvement: Day 1 - 6/20/15
“Get up and walk, move forward, you have two strong legs it’s time to get up and use them.” -Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Hello folks, my name is Wade Rehmke, and welcome to My Journal to Self Improvement. Here I type down what happened in my day for the main purpose of keeping myself beholden to self improvement. So, without further ado, let’s get started!
Today was my first day of Crossfit, something I had been meaning to do for months. Oddly enough, I wasn’t nearly as sore as I thought I’d be on my first day, must’ve been all that running I did in the months leading up to this. I was a little slow however, which wasn’t problematic until I got to my main exercise. The exercise in question had me partner up with someone and take turns: I would run 200 meters while they did lifting, at the end of my 200 meters I would switch out and do lifts until my partner finished with her run, then we’d switch out again, this would continue until we did 100 Dead Lifts, 100 Burpees, 100 Wall Balls, and 100 Pull-Ups. The problem is that I would do, say, 5 Burpees, run, and come back to find that my partner did 25 Burpees while I was out. Outside of that little hiccup though, I would say that it was a good workout.
Afterwards my sister picked me up and took me home and we had a talk about how I don’t really inform her about when I need a ride and have been treating her like a Taxi service since she came home for the summer. As much as I hate to admit it, she’s right and it is something I have to work on; I at least need to give her a day’s warning if I’m making plans and not be afraid to take the bus if something randomly pops up.
After bathing, I then took the bus to the restaurant I work at, where I have to make sure linens are folded so they can be filled with silverware and rolled, then I have to make sure there are at least two bins full of rolled up linens. Usually I manage to get three filled by Friday and there’s one left on Saturday but evidently the restaurant was so busy Friday night that I had none left, so I was there a lot linger than usual. On the plus side I had a delicious Bruno’s Cuban with a side of rice for lunch, which was good because I didn’t have breakfast that morning.
In what I hoped would round out my day; I found myself changing into Pajama’s, popping in my copy of Kingdom Hearts II for the PS3, and continuing my 100% Critical Mode run. However, after completing Timeless River and right as I was preparing to go into the worst world of the game, Atlantica, I got a text from my boss ,“Can you come roll silverware?” These messages are very rare and it was the first time I had received a message like this in months.
Realizing that the next bus came by in 15 minutes, I quickly got dressed and ready to go. However, when I went to the bus I found myself a quarter short, I had been in such a hurry that I grabbed the dollar but not the quarter I needed. Luckily the bus driver was kind enough to give me a quarter so I could afford the fare. After an uneventful ride in which I listened to the Rockman HOLIC Album by SOUND HOLIC, I found myself a block away from work. When I got in though I found out that the host, possibly a new girl, had assumed that we were out of linens and no one bothered to check otherwise, so I was effectively called in for nothing.
However, I chose to make something out of nothing and decided to get a head start on tomorrow’s work, effectively meaning that I’ll only have to be in for an hour tomorrow. I also had another Bruno’s Cuban for dinner, I’m pretty sure it’s my new favorite dish, sorry French Dip. After that though, I caught a ride home from my mom, played some Ori and the Blind Forest on Xbox One (Misty Woods complete!), and went to bed. Coincidentally that’s where I’m writing this from so I guess I should be heading to sleep. With that said though I’ll be seeing you tomorrow.
