ever since he was forced to live in the streets, dante had picked up what some would consider a very strange hobby. he would sit in a corner of the busiest street and just watch people. however creepy that may sound, he found peace in seeing other go about their lives. every person has their story--and dante considered himself lucky to be able to experience a tiny part of it, even as a bystander. 

however there was always the occasional treat. every now and then, someone would throw things away - that’s why he always sat near trash cans - if he was really lucky, it’d be food. and sure, eating someone else’s junk was in no way sanitary. but he always found the fear of starvation particularly motivating.

today was one of his lucky days. he noticed a bulky looking man--probably close to his own age--hurrying down the street. he was holding a barely eaten sandwich in his hands, but it seemed that his destination had become a distraction. as he walked down the sidewalk, he tossed the sandwich in the garbage next to dante and he hurried to retrieve it, paying no further attention to the man.
