Bruce Week Day 5- Robots

It’s your suit now, big guy.

“When I was four, I saw my father kill my mother.”

Made for Bruce Week 2018 Day 3.

Prompt: Child, injury.

Process: 8-9 hours.

Bruce stared at counter with a small frown as Jen placed each item out of the plastic shopping bag with care.

“You know,” Jen spoke up as she placed a carton of eggs on the counter. “If you keep that up your face is going to get stuck that way.” She finished without looking up at him.

Bruce’s frown deepened as if to prove a point to his cousin.

“I know YOU don’t care but I for one would like you to keep your handsome face.” Jen teased as she looked at him raising her brows.

Bruce scoffed and lightly shoved Jen’s shoulder, reacting as if he was 10 years old. He loved Jen, she was one of the few people, if the ONLY person there was who Bruce felt comfortable around.

Therefore she was also the only person who could drag him around and force him to do things that he didn’t particularly want too.

Like make him make cupcakes with her.

Jen had been watching a lot of baking videos because it’s suppose to be calming and help her with her own Hulk issues and now she wanted to try it for herself. Bruce however wasn’t really interested. If he wanted a cupcake he could just go out and buy one.

“It’s just not really something I’m interested in.” Bruce pulled up the recipe that Jen sent him on his phone and propped it on the table. Bruce lost any real sense of excitement about food after his time as a fugitive and he never really got it back when he settled down.

“Yeah well you need to get out of your butt out of that lab.” Jen chastised. “And I want to have a fun afternoon with my cousin so you don’t have a choice.” Jen smirked at Bruce as she started to pull out mixing bowls.

Bruce couldn’t help but smile as he helped her retrieve the tools they needed, he was always grateful he had that connection with her and he treasured that.

“Besides, cooking is kind of a science.” Jen opened the flour and grabbed a measuring cup. “You know it has a formula to follow.”

“Uh huh. It’s basically the same thing.” Bruce uttered sarcastically as he cracked an egg into the white mixing bowl.

The two worked together in a comfortable silence, able to move around eachother and perform each task seamlessly.

Bruce ended up having a good time, just as Jen knew he would. Her favourite part of the process was decorating the cupcakes. Jen’s were all expertly decorated with frosting and little roses she made out of fondant.

Bruce’s half on the other hand, well he tried. Even the frosting somehow seemed to look more lacklustre despite them using the same batch. Bruce’s fondant flowers looked more like sad little smudged balls with pinch indents but Jen loved them anyhow. That made Bruce happy and the long hours of baking and cleaning worth it.

“Guess the only thing left to do is taste them.” Bruce said as picked up one of his pink frosted creations.

“Cheers!” Jen exclaimed as she bopped her cupcake with Bruce’s.

They each took a bite out of their individual cupcakes in silence.

“Jen?”

“Yeah?”

“We aren’t good at baking.”

“No... We aren’t... are we...”
