While I LOVE The Princess Diaries, I hate how Hollywood seems to think that curly hair + glasses = ugly
as a curly headed, nearsighted female i see and get exactly where you’re coming from and it’s honestly pretty shitty the whole “she takes off her glasses and GASP she was beautiful the whole time” trope or whatever is just absolutely ridiculous and I’ll never understand the curly hair = ugly thing either especially when ppl with straight hair go out of their way to add curl to their locks
i mean i guess you could justify the princess diaries makeover by saying it was the unkemptness of Mia that made her less aesthetically pleasing, because yeah she had curly hair but it was frizzy and unkempt idk i guess more so her makeover was meant to be more than just making her look like a princess but giving her confidence to act like a princess and if contacts & straight hair give her confidence then whatever to each their own but it’s not a very good lesson to teach youngings who are insecure about the physical traits Hollywood loves to alter
