she could care LESS about what happened to her--- it’s HIM she wants to keep safe. “i don’t want them to hurt you.” her voice remains fragile and raw. a quiet sob erupts from her chest at the mere idea of steve being hurt again. “please don’t leave me.” the definition of ‘leave’ is clear: if he dies, she’ll go out of her mind.
