In October last year, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana found a shipwreck in an area of the Mississippi River that had been particularly affected by the severe drought. He immediately reported it to the state archaeologist in charge, who was already aware of the wreck. It was the Brookhill, a merchant ship built in Indiana in 1896.
The Brookhill had a sister ship, the Istrouma, which worked as a day ferry crossing the river, while the Brookhill had taken over the night traffic, in addition to its trading activities. However, both ships sank on 29 September 1915 after a heavy storm. That it is now the Brookhill is due to her location. She sank right next to the landing stage, which is still half visible next to the wreck.
