Imagine Comforting Eragon After Arya's Rejection.
I hadn't seen Eragon since he passed out and I was starting to worry. I scratched at my palm the silver mark sent tingles up my arm. The elves had started to dispurse.
Eragonβs awake. Saphira commented. I nodded not bothering to answer. The effects of the festival are still heavy in my head. I padded across the clearing to where Saphira stood. I leaned against her.
Are you alright Little one? She asked
Ye- I grabbed at my chest as a wave of anguish crashed over me. I held tightly to Saphira.
βEragon.β I mumbled aloud. I swung my head around searching for the man. I watched Arya race away from a small clearing. The fool. I sighed to Saphira. I pushed off of her side, leading her to where Arya had come just moments before. A fresh wave of pain hit me bringing tears to my eyes.
βEragon?β I called as his form came into view. He looked up at me, his cheeks red. His entire appearance had changed from just hours before. His eyes were tilted in slightly and his ears tapered to a point like an Elves. The physical change startled me.
βIβm sorry but I canβt do that.β I pitched up my dress before kneeling in the dirt next to him. He pulled his knees to his chest. He cried quietly not wanting to make a bigger fool out of himself.
βDo you remember when Brom died?β The words flew from my mouth without a second thought. I cringed but I knew it was too late to take it back. βI cried for hours and you didnβt leave my side once, until you knew I was alright.β Saphira let out a low hum as she remembered. βItβs my turn to repay the favor.β I reached out and pulled him against me. His sobs became louder as he shook. I felt like daggers were tearing through me. Saphira shuffled closer to us before enclosing her wings around us.
I rubbed circles into his back. It took every ounce of my self control not to chase down Arya and challenge her to a duel. But that would be rash, and stupid, and a whole list of other things that would get us no where. I reached out to his mind carefully. Trying to sooth him. He held my arms gently,
βIβm not going to leave you.β
