Creating this project has been my baby these past cycles - nurturing it with revision, research, redoing the whole thing a time or two...but it’s finally grown up & ready to be out in the world! This craft is one that has been stolen, misinterpreted, & colonized over the thousands of years that it has been an amazing counterpart to culture. Part of why Sacred Pokes exists is to deprogram from the disassociated, aggressive paradigm that has overlaid the actual traditions it originates from. I do not claim specific body modification practices belonging to indigenous cultures as my own, but honor that ceremonial ink has been indigenous to humankind’s expression for as long as we have known how to heal a wound. What’s developed from Sacred Pokes has become wholly a bow, to this primeval healing practice. What I bring to the table is in (R)evolution of body ornamentation, aiming to uplift, support, & DE-colonize. I want to give the often-misconstrued art of imprinting back to the people as a collective (#bringbackthepoke my friends). So, consider Ink With a Cause to be a direct descendent of that intention. Imprint Art .
