Damn it not again. Right on time for AO3 to be down. I want to read my updates T_T
I love people watching. The summer is the best time for it. Sitting on the beach in the shade of other peopleās umbrellas, watching them live their lives. Seeing all the people my age run into the water as fast as they can so they donāt chicken out from the cold lake water. Some a little younger are mimicking the āAcclimatizeā meme. Older people are up on the boardwalk watching as well, mostly watching the little ones making sand castles on the waters edge, making teams to fetch water or broken mussels to help out.
The seasonās just beginning, and I got there early enough to watch the freshly raked sand be turned into a mass of indistinguishable footprints from the people going back and forth. If you look, thereās some tire tracks from an off-road stroller someone pushed down the beach an hour ago. That family had left not long after because of the heat. The ice cream shack is open, and the line is following along the boardwalk, the order only occasionally interrupted by kids running up to their parents before running back to the sand.
The grassy area is filled with people, too. Way more than there used to be. But people have barbecues running, and the smells mingle with the sunscreen and bug spray people have begun putting on. Thereās the smell of a fire pit drifting on the wind from someoneās property upwind, a feat considering the downtown core behind us. It smells like summer.
The sun begins to set, the smells lean more towards bug spray to ward off the mosquitoes and black flies, and the restaurants are beginning to fill up as people start to pack up for the day. The person I was borrowing shade from left half an hour ago with their kids, thereās sand castles lining the shore, some kids are hurriedly filling in holes as their parents are calling them over to get changed into some dry and comparatively less sandy clothes āit doesnāt matter what you do there will always be sand in any bag you bring, I think thereās still sand in my bag from last yearā coercing them with snacks or dinner. The sun sets on them in a way that getting a low angle will make it seem like a tall tower in a fairy tale.
The crowds file out. All thatās left is a group playing water volleyball, a few elderly couples walking the boardwalk, and me. I sit here staring at the sands left in disarray, not by junk or garbage, but by humans leaving their mark, however temporary it may be. Rains will wash away the footprints. Maybe, one day, theyāll be set in stone, left for someone in the future to find and come to the realization that people lived here, really, lived here.
Every one of these footprints is someone going through something. Something wonderful? Something terrible? Only they really know, we as an observer, can only speculate. We can take joy in that speculation. We may never see that person again, but they will still leave an impression.
Someone said that everyone that appears in your dreams is someone youāve seen before. That person you speculate about could carry on with you in your dreams, even if you donāt realize it. So do some people watching, notice the small things, like the footprints in the sand, or interactions between strangers, you might find a little joy.
So I poke at Threads every now and then to see what the fuck is happening over there and there has been an abundance of people that are romanticizing 2016. This of course comes with people saying they miss Tumblr and āit sucks that itās deadā to which some people that are here try to chime in to say thatās weāre alive and weāll only to be chloroformed and dragged back into the abyss by tumblr users that do not want the place flooded by other people again, and itās very entertaining. We may need to break out the PowerPoint again however
Wild realizing that yeah my ability to do stuff is variable. Last week I was able to do a hike with my friend no problems at all. This week doing the same hike, I was incredibly unstable and tripping over the roots and rocks that were there last time and was in pain. Iām hyper mobile, my joints being unstable is a regular thing for me, Iāve nearly stumbled into traffic because I put too much weight in the wrong part of my leg, but seeing a direct comparison on how exactly that effects me is crazy. The only thing that changed in that week was the weather. Really weird seeing my ability to do things change in a day to day basis.

Does anyone else hate the feeling of people possibly ever knowing you need a tutorial for something? I canāt stand using cideo tutorials for this reason and it sucks lol
Me and my friend have a routine of me going over to her house every week. This weekend I went camping with her and her family and my social battery unfortunately needs more than 24 hours to recharge. I feel bad just saying that so I tell her my mom needs me for stuff tonight and I canāt come over. She comes back with « please donāt cancel last minute on me now I have to find something to do with the extra ticket I haveĀ ā¦(didnāt read the rest of the text)Ā Ā» Iām sorry that I didnāt know you had a whole thing planned, all I know is that we were maybe going to be going to a park?? And the only reason I texted her an hour before hand is because I knew she would call me directly after instead of discussing it over text which I couldnāt handle today if I texted her any earlier. If you need to say something important and Iām not picking up the phone put it in a text so that I know about it and donāt ruin plans that I donāt know about
With everything happening this decade weāre gonna need a new āwe didnāt start the fireā every 5 years
