because the game pong is a tennis-type game we decided that it would be a fun challenge if you ran back and forth, and to make it more challenging we decided to have “up” and “down” on seperate sides, so that each player had to be on the same side to push their individual “up”-button.

however when we presented the game, the buttons were a bit too difficult to use with your hands - so we decided that when the other teams had to play, it’d be a stepping game, much like one of the first ideas regarding dance-dance-revolution.

this resulted in game controllers that worked the way we intended.

following the decision to play pong we started coming up with ideas on what the controllers were to do.

we looked into using a drumming-mechanism where you have to drum for the “paddles” in the game move up and down.

then we started considering using a dance-dance-revolution-type controller where you had up and down on the floor, like it is in dance dance revolution.

we went away from this idea, as we were afraid that the controllers would be ruined too easily.

but we continued with the concept, except as buttons to press.

for this brief we were introduced to the i-pac2, which is connected to the computer as a keyboard. this allows you to attach cables and create a connection similar to the lamps, only instead of powering leds, we assign the same power to a key on a keyboard.

as we had chosen pong we decided to have it as a multiplayer game, rather than to make the single player a multiplayer task.

for the next assignment we were put into groups to work with creating a form of social game controller for an existing in-browser game. the group i was assigned to consisted of adrian, mats, oskar, sofie and myself.

we had to pick a game quite quickly, and our group chose pong. one of the first arcade games to exist - a two-dimensional tennis game released in 1972.
