Ok, Im trying to start watching Evangelion but Im kind of lost where to start, bc it seems there are re-releases or whatever? Idk Im confused. In the grander scheme of life Im new in general to anime, but all the Evangelion gifs/photos/captions I've seen for the past 2 years are screaming at me to watch it.
I really, really think everyone should start with the director's cut, dubbed original series, followed by End of Evangelion, and then the Rebuild. In other words, you should probably watch everything in order.
But it also depends on your own personal tastes. I had to show Adam the Rebuild movies (which are the re-releases) to snare him. He's not a fan of animation in general, and the original just looked "too dated." But he absolutely loved You Are (Not) Alone, You Can (Not) Advance, and You Can (Not) Redo. AKA 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, respectively. Or 1.11, 2.22, and 3.33 for added confusion. I have no idea what the fuck Anno and his production crew are smoking. Explaining the chronology of releases is about as confusing as explaining the plot itself.
