My experience with the Tianjin Theatre: I had never acted on stage before. It was great to have a chance to do so in the project. Also, I found it an unforgettable experience to work together with people from different parts of the world and to get to know cultural differences and similarities within our international crew and audience.
THEATER IN CHINA - Tianjin
Theatre in China Living in a foreign country has its good points but also some negative aspects. Then when you live in Tianjin, where everything is far away and new, you want to discover it, but when you find that the only point of contact you have with the locals is at the market or restaurant, or in the disco, everything becomes empty. The city has few leisure activities, culturally speaking at least. The discos and pubs seem to be the only way to escape the routine. And well, you're a creative person! You have to create something, something crazy, new, funny, capable of involving Chinese and foreign students. But what to create exactly? Then a brilliant idea. With your experience of the theater you decide to offer an evening of comedy. You organize a group of aspiring actors, young students coming from countries as far away from each other as: Somalia, Italy, Denmark, Mozambique, Kenya, China, India, Germany, Yemen and Iran. Teaching Italian comedy to foreigners, from different parts and cultures of the world, seems a risky challenge. But it is fascinating to see how the humor and drama can generate integration. They manage in a short time to create a show, by rehearsing funny sketches, which the group hardly even understood. The future actors would only understand only once they performed for an audience. It's a little part of the game, you understand only when you perform comedy. The group learns the rhythm and the comic arts, which were already in them.
They learn above all how to work together towards a common objective: have fun and entertain people. The group publicize the event in person: a smile, a ticket and a date in a cafe, a meeting place for many students in the city. The day of the show, everyone was excited. And when you discover that even though the venue only holds 100 people, double that have turned up, while others are watching from outside, the adrenaline starts pumping. You are happy. The actors become animated by the atmosphere and want to entertain people. The lighthearted game that has united Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas has just begun. You enjoy it because you have created the will to work together and play together.
And the actor laughs because the audience is laughing.
