Freedom: The Underground Railroad. Like Black Orchestra and other similar games the subject matter will not be for everyone. It is a difficult and emotional game to play and even harder to review. Following historical references and chargers, this is a cooperative game about freeing as many slaves as possible. Players take actions and play cards to free slaves from plantations, help them travel north while avoiding slave trackers and escape to freedom in Canada. The game itself is excellent, is difficult to win and offers lots of opportunities for strategic group planning. The game's sombre theme and creeping dispair is handled respectfully and will definately start conversation when you are done. While not for everyone, I give this a solid 9 out of 10 and put it there amongst the best cooperative games. A robot can do Thomas Friedman's job better than Thomas Friedman. The metaphors are more mixed, the rhetorical questions more rhetorical. We have a feeling Brian Mayer and Michael Ward may have automated him out of a job. At the very least, his editor has a powerful tool when it comes to salary negotiations. We would know- we've emailed him the link. Someone has to look out for the New York Times' bottom line...
