UNCLE ANDRESIN

The Hidden People of Lolander were a close-knit group. Uncle Andresin was a staple of Juniper’s life there. A beautiful creature, a lively personality, the kind of person who could light up an entire room simply with their presence. She loved Andresin with all her heart, and she knew her father felt the same of him. They were close, and Ash would often leave Juniper in Andresin’s care if he needed to leave the camp. Now that their home has been destroyed, Juniper doesn’t know for sure what happened to him. She has heard some news that implies he may be alive, but she can’t know for sure. If he is, she knows he’ll have gone to find more of their people in a different hidden place. 

Talk about the most dangerous experience you’ve ever had.

“Of all the near death experiences I’ve had, of all the moments I’ve been compelled to pray to be taken in the goddess’s arms in death, the most dangerous are always because of my own abilities. Every time I use my radiant consumption there is the acute danger of charring myself alive from the inside out. The incident that gave me my name Ashbringer was the worst. It felt as close to losing control as I’ve come, I couldn’t stop myself from destroying the entire village, nearly destroying myself. I never want to get that close to bringing about my own destruction again.”

What is the best or worst first impression you’ve ever made?

“I’m well aware that meeting me often leaves something to be desired, especially given my goals. But one of the worst may be the moment I met my mentor. I was young, I had never seen much outside of my temple, and I was confused. All I had was the name of a goddess and a path of down feathers on my shoulders. When I found Nadir on the dock and she said my then-name, my first instinct was to strip my shirt off to show her the feathers, then and there. She was amused, luckily, but I’m still mortified to this day.”

GALENA MARDUN

A fire genasi that fell in love with a fisherman. A strange combination, most would say but Khovakri figured it made sense. She was strong and hot-headed while the man that crossed him across the sea from Lolander to Haelion was calm and spoke in soft waves, just like the ocean. The man offered Khovakri shelter when they reached the shore, a place to stay until he figured out where the road would take him next and Galena was there, waiting with a big smile and a warmer hug that filled the exhausted, gloomy Kalashtar with new energy. They spent hours talking, asking questions about each other deep into the night. She was the first person he trusted with the secret of his race and the nature of his spirit and his task. She spoke of her people in return, of the different planes and how the fire was her beginning but the sea was her home. When he said his goodbyes, he promised to return to them once his destiny was fulfilled. 

🔪 goblin: Have you ever lashed out to protect yourself?

I don’t think so. I’ve protected myself before -- you don’t trek around for a few years without having to -- but it wasn’t really lashing out. I try not to do that -- to act on emotion.

💁🏿 human: What do you feel is your greatest weakness?

I’m bad at...making connections. Which I guess you could say is kind of everything, really.
