I've been thinking lately about the story of Cain and Abel and the deeper implications. Cain killed Abel, we all know, but why was Abel killed? Why did Hashem not intervene as He did, say, when Yosef's brothers plotted against him? What was Abel's sin that he deserved kares (to die prematurely and without offspring)? The meforshim don't really talk about it, only explanations for why they fought, and the story mostly focuses on Cain's perspective. I've just been interested in it.
