...Vivaldiās avian landscape is constructed on more than mimesis. The whole ensemble unexpectedly drops out apart from the three violins. With the sudden lack of a ābottomā, our ears shoot āupwardsā. In other words, the violinists arenāt pretending to be birds to us or to each other; instead, we the listeners have become birds and suddenly find ourselves in the treetops amongst others just like us.
