It would kill so many birds with one stone, and Loki is a master manipulator.
Bear in mind I am also of the mentality that Loki not only uses Jane's possession by Dark Elf magic to his advantage in this very way, he also is probably behind her possession and will make Malekith et al take the blame and fall for it, again so he can be perceived falsely as one of the heroes.
I say all this as a massive Loki fan, btw. I just have no illusions over the fact that he can be a major douche :P
