Senator dines on pimento cheese while on tour of region
Mayor of Ansonia, CT declared: “I had breakfast there this morning and the food is outstanding!”
Winston Churchill didn't care for self-denial. "Almost all the food faddists I have ever known, nut eaters and the like, have died young after a long period of senile decay," he once growled.
He professed a John Bull-like preference for beef and "plain food," but this should be taken with a pinch of salt: At the ripe old age of 88, he was at the Pinafore Room of the Savoy Hotel happily tucking into his "Filet of Roast Deer stuffed with pâté de foie gras and served with truffle sauce."
He was also particular about the way his food was cooked. After a 1942 dinner, he inimitably complained about the quail being too dry: "These miserable mice should never have been removed from Tutankhamen's tomb."
