Hi Starky!!! I just realized I didn't actually have an actual list of my own headcanons for the two so I had to whip this up, anyways I'd love to hear your thoughts about them too💖👀

- Derek is action oriented, he'd act first and feel later. Avery complains first, then he acts.

- Derek is the one terrible with horror movies, Avery is actually a fan of horror movies (Derek's guilty pleasure are action movies)

- Avery is a good cook! He's messy overall but you can trust him to keep a kitchen in order, Derek on the other hand...

- Avery is VERY good with kids, but for some reason animals aren't very fond of him, Derek is actually scared of animals but they like him a lot, cats specifically

- Avery if given the chance would want a pet reptile, he always thought they were cool but he can't keep one yet

- Derek's room doesn't seem all that lived in, there's always been a thin layer of dust on his other things because he rarely (if ever) steps out of his room

- Avery is into metal/punk music, Derek's tastes are more varied (from instrumental music to vocaloid to traditional songs)

- Derek has a rbf, combined with his height most people find him too intimidating to even approach, but he's actually a yapper once he opens up

- Avery also yaps a lot, but its rarely things that'll make you learn something about him, it's always something he saw/he heard, because he actually prefers to listen

- Avery is a good singer/dancer, he's a very coordinated person so dancing comes easier to him

- Derek struggled a lot with learning the piano, he enjoys it now because it was the thing that showed him effort pays off, still he's way clumsier than Avery though

- Avery has a habit of giving people/things nicknames, they're not the most creative or pretty, but it does the job and gives you a good idea of what/who he's talking about (he nicknamed his childhood dog "Whitey" because it was white)

- Derek agonizes over nicknames/names in general, you'd find him sifting through name registries and searching up histories just to find something "perfect"

- Avery is more the perfectionist between the two, so he's easily discouraged when something he picks up doesn't come easy to him

- Derek would study/research everything thoroughly first before he starts something, but this is rare since not a lot of things pique his interest

- Avery is unused to gifts, Derek knows their value/appreciates them but isn't too excited over them

Obviously, Avery would be the flower right? It's his favorite after all. Bright, and beautiful it fits!

And Derek and trees! Strong, sturdy and unwavering like its trunk. Fitting right?

Let me do you one better though

Derek as the flower, and Avery as the tree. Hear me out-

In the dawtde qna, wifies said "Derek knew all there is to know about trees" and that "Avery liked flowers a lot but doesn't know too much about them". Right? It's familiar isn't it?

What is a flower? A plant organ meant to continue a plant's life cycle, to help it propagate, mature and spread its seed. Bright, pungent and short lived, its only purpose is to attract its "pollinators" to propagate. A flower isn't anything to look at before it blooms, but when it does, it's eye catching. It's beauty nestled between the petals...

What is a tree? A plant with a sturdy trunk, that may bend, but it will not break so easily. Its root firmly anchored onto the ground that nourishes it, connected to the world around it and is an important part of any ecosystem. It's tall and long lived, only growing stronger as it goes on.

And man, the fact that Derek was the lure used by the King to bring Avery to him. For him to complete his cycle and be born anew into the real world. Derek as a flower, like fire, burned brightly before withering. Showing the world their beauty fiercely but Derek fought against his fate.

Avery anchored to the idea of knowing what happened to Derek. To the person who cared enough to dissuade him from going left. And once he set foot in his journey, he bent, he almost broke but he stood strong still. And like a tree, he may not be as eye-catching or stand out, but he has a quiet strength, firmly rooted in his values.

Anyways, this is an emotional ramble fueled by delusions and is poorly written. Maybe everything I've said has already been said but I just wanna get it out.

Wifies mentioned repeatedly that Derek was a mold for us to project onto. But like, I think there's just an overlap between us as the audience and Avery.

And maybe this doesn't mean we're supposed to project unto Avery himself but moreso that Avery is one of us. Yes, he was THE vessel of choice. But the only criteria by the king was an uncorrupted mind. And there's only one person in our universe who has a corrupted mind.

Avery, despite being actually part of the story was still sidelined. He even only remembered everything after watching Wifies' video. Which, is similar to us, the audience, only knowing what happened through said video.

And yes, this doesn't really defeat the whole "mold to project onto" point, but I think it's more said for Avery. Derek is a hero. Someone who saved him and everyone else. And that's someone who deserves to be remembered, and someone we should idolize.

And well maybe, everything is just a letter to Avery. Hell, we're the ones to stumble upon their story. This story concluded without our input at all. Which just makes me so sad.

Uogh, this came at a very "Avery is good at music" time koff koff.

- Avery has a very good singing voice. Often finds himself humming a lullaby that his mother sung to him when he was a wee child.

- Said singing voice is actually not fully utilized. Like he has a good voice, but he's yet to put in real practice to make it a weapon, metaphorically.

- Picked up a guitar once 'cause he was bored. Picked it up fairly quickly and only ever uses it as an extra cool points card for people he pursues. (Yes, Avery was in previous relationships, because he thought that's what normal and expected™️, never lasted long though)

- Given the chance he can definitely play the drums too, but he's yet to find the will or opportunity to find it out.

- Would've been a perfect star for a garage band.

- Has great whistling skills. His family definitely had some spooks over boiling water that didn't actually exist when he was growing up.

- Was gifted a harmonica and played it a lot when he had time to go outside more. Since he's been stuck in an apartment building/dorm he hasn't had the opportunity to play it. But it's definitely one of his favorites.

- Did some fire kazoo covers but that's lost media unfortunately-

- Post-dawtde!cope au, he likes serenading Derek with his guitar and voice. He was playing it in his room once and found Derek watching him from the door of their room. "Did anyone tell you have a nice voice?"

- Is now trying to learn a new song for Derek every other week. He has bandaids on his fingers more often now because he finds himself practicing way more frequently.

- He hasn't admitted it to anyone, but playing music is his own way of self soothing but he's yet to realize that. (He likes pushing his feelings aside more than dealing with them.)

- Corny as it may be, Avery finds it easier to express his emotions through music than words.

- There was a lot of sad guitar noises from his room pre-dawtde!cope au

- Avery dances well, well. A trait not a lot of people expect since he's mostly covered in cut and bruises leading to people thinking he's clumsy, but really he just falls a lot when learning new tricks on the skateboard regardless of how good he is.

- Avery needs to be scouted by a music agency like fr rn so he can become a music icon-

- Derek picked up lyric writing for Avery and they spent some afternoons writing songs together.

- Like please, please, please give Avery the resources and the opportunity to explore his musical side. He's actually very attuned to it he just can't explore as much because he doesn't have the infrastructure for it

...this became longer than I expected it to be. Uh, I also have no idea where I got the feeling that Avery is attuned to music other than, "coordinated=>good at instruments=>very music".

I love giving them some small details like this because I think Avery of all people definitely has a habit of picking up hobbies that he drops after 3 days. So he never really got far on some skills... Uh, I should change my name to yapnanabread atp.

We ALL will hold hands and improve together 🗣️‼️

Hi! If I'm being honest, that was a one off thought that may have a little wip on the basement to basically just explore (my freak) "What the hell can a guy who has so much intensity and skill as Derek do?" But in a "less" noble way.

If you remember me mentioning how your musician au was the "A-side" and mine was the "B-side" of things (the terms are used incorrectly here, I just wanted to mention them.) (Tamon-kun wa kami!). In this au, Derek finds Avery when he's just starting out as well. But this time around, he finds Avery after Derek dropped out and had a huge fight with his mother and basically all things are falling apart for him.

"After a failed attempt at drinking, he finds Avery singing his songs in a busy park. Performing for strangers, laying his heart out for some modicum of attention or time for his craft.

And that earnestness hits Derek.

It was the moment that Derek got struck with lightning and the moment he became "drawn" to Avery's light. Like a ship to a lighthouse, he stops to listen, and finds comfort in the song.

It's okay for things to not be perfect,

It's okay to not have things figured out,

It's okay to drift and just exist today,

As long as you promise to keep moving forward to tomorrow.

As he dropped a tip on Avery's guitar case, a smile bloomed on the musician's face, "Thank you so much!"

A light so bright that it burned Derek, but he just nodded in exchange. A light that can pierce through even the darkest of storms.

As Derek savored Avery's voice and words in his heart, he put one foot in front of the other, walking away from Avery."

^^^ The above is technically their first meeting, but this is just a random blurb I pulled out of thin air so... It's very shaky for now. Anyways moving on more to some fun facts:

- As mentioned, Derek dropped out of college and lost his full ride. Not because he was struggling, no, not really. But because even if the program was something he liked, it wasn't something that sparked any joy in him.

- He was taking computer science with a focus on cyber security. But he was more endeared towards robotics and found that more fun and interesting so his program slowly just became dull for him.

- After dropping out of college and the initial meeting with Avery. He began to just focus on his likes. Basically losing interest on a fair amount of things. Like family, friends, social decorum, and self care among others.

- While he spiralled deeper, he found Avery again. This time on the internet as a much, much bigger star than the street musician he was previously (no timespan for now).

- And like a ship finding its harbor, Derek threw down his anchor and found that Avery still shone like he did back then. His words still bring comfort, his smile lightens Derek's chest and his words feel as warm as it did when they first "met".

- Derek's interest in Avery is once again reignited. But interest to Derek now is closer to obsession as it was the only way he found to keep moving forward.

- Derek's a very skilled hacker. This definitely won't be important in any way.

- Avery mentioned in one of his interviews that he thought Spartan helmets are cool, which is why Derek has one for this au.

- The reason Avery started singing in this au was because he just went, "Fuck it." And gambled all in for this path. He was barely making ends meet while being saddled with college debt and pressure from academics that he just broke.

- The songs he writes are more so to comfort himself than others in the beginning. But he found genuine joy in making others smile so that eventually became his motivation.

- He occasionally remembers the stranger in the red hoodie and his dead eyes and how that guy basically jumpstarted his career by dropping a few hundred dollars as a tip, which he only noticed after he was long gone.

- He calls his fans mayolings, much to their dismay but they forgive him for it, he was never the best at naming things.

- Avery also dances well in this au! He's got the killer smile, an enchanting voice and the dancing skills of a pro so he's always been star material.

- Avery lives alone. He does eventually make a friend that became his manager as she did see the potential in Avery early on and decided to support him. So he does have someone to care for him here.

- Avery also develops a severe instinct of trying to do "right" by his fans. Always doing stuff to please them, even at the cost of his own health.

I'm saving some stuff that I still wanna write, all of this is basically just the background on who they are for this au.

I do recognize how far removed this is from the source material so I haven't indulged on it too much because it's messy and panders to myself mostly so it's very, uh, out there.
