Ethnomethodology means the study of methods used by people. This approach was founded by the American sociologist Harold Garfinkel (1967). He argues that members of society assume that the social world is ordered and makes sense. However, this order and sense may not actually exist. Instead it may be constructed to make the social world appear knowable, reasonable and understandable. Follow this link to find a breaching experiment on a grand scaleΒ

The classic Candid Camera experiment, also a good example a breaching experiment
A breaching experiment involving door holding
just did a sociology experiment for class where we had to breach a social norm. partnered up with another girl and just sat right between a set of doors into the anderson center, legs stretched out, totally blocking everyone's path. ppl had to step over us or squish around us, and it was actually pretty fun, although my partner was pretty mortified. but hey, at least i wasn't in the group that was hugging strangers, or sitting down in pairs at an occupied table and talking to each other over the person(s) originally seated there, or the group that staged a chair-flipping, hollering domestic argument inside the center. i do feel like our prof. should have probably checked to see if there was a poor tour group of prospective high schoolers passing through...because there was, and i think we might have freaked a few of them out
