Route: Braithwaite, Whinlatter Pass, Lorton, Buttermere, Newlands Hause, Braithwaite.

Also includes Climb 17

Note: 16 and 17 were somehow not logged at the time, must have been impending Christmas, hence the late post on these. I had to renumber the others to stay in some sort of # vs date order.

This Climb

There are three routes up Whinlatter the other two being via Swinside (Climb 27) and Scawgill Bridge. (Ridden but to be logged), and although this climb appears as No 82 in Simon Warren's 100 Greatest Climbs list, I would say that both of the other two, especially  Swinside are superior.

Nevertheless this does provide an interesting challenge for having left Braithwaite you are thrust into at first increasing then decreasing sequence of gradients, but always up and up, providing a series of hard grafts followed by slightly less hard grafts.

The thing that spoils Whinlatter for me, except on the Swinside approach (Climb 27 ), is that the view generally comprises closeups of the acres of farmed Sitka Spruce, a vista only slightly improved with the morning sunlight streaming through.
