The Funniest part about Brade's Plans in Skyward Series is that (while doomed from the start if we're being honest) she spent years putting together the ability to take over everything and Could have succeeded for a little while at least.
The main thing that got in her way is that she just Could Not kill Spensa. Not cause she couldn't. She absolutely had many chances to shoot her. But she didn't, until right at the end when she failed.
I am 100% sure that is all cause she didn't even realize she had a massive crush on her. In Starsight while disguised Spensa was the first person to Not treat her like an evil monster. She definitely caught feelings. When the truth came out she was pissed, but then like, they can be monsters Together right?
And she never once realized it cause she'd never Felt that connection. She'd always been the monster. She didn't recognize what it was like to feel something other than rage and hate and desire for power. She didn't recognize Trust, so she didn't recognize that Spensa had trusted her to begin with. But she felt it. And she couldn't let it go until it was too late.
