This is…this is a great question. And difficult. I loved PoA. Loved Remus Lupin as a professor - his quiet humor, his ease and certainty in the classroom, his competence. I loved that he conjured fire in his hand on the Hogwarts Express and told a dementor to get rekt. I loved that he strolled into his classroom fashionably late. I love that he paced and gestured impatiently in the Shrieking Shack, and I loved his cold, clean anger toward Peter Pettigrew. I base so much of my understanding of him on PoA.

13. Hardest character to write:

I have the most difficulty with characters whose personalities aren’t well formed in my head - Teddy, Victoire (two characters I’ve only written a couple hundred words about) or whose “off-camera” personalities I suspect might be slightly different from what we see through Harry’s point of view (Dumbledore, potentially). I revise Tonks’s dialogue more than any other character, though, because I’m always trying to capture her sincerity and her casual-but-slightly-bashful demeanor around Remus (particularly when they’re alone). I have this suspicion that he makes her incredibly nervous (in a pleasant way) and she just sort of…powers through it. Tricky to write.

14. Easiest character to write:

Kreacher, if we’re talking about “characters I write with little depth for the lols.” Mundungus Fletcher is incredibly easy to write. I *hear* his dialogue so easily, but again, he serves frequently as comic relief, as do Hestia Jones and Dedalus Diggle, who I have crafted into these hilarious shopping-buddy types in my head. The Hestia/Dedalus scenes in The Girl Under the Mulberry Branch gave me very little trouble. (With Hestia, I just imagine the demeanor of Vivien Leigh in some of her later interviews - clever, catty, not to be trifled with, a little impatient.) Sirius generally presents few issues, though I admit I don’t give his character much inward analysis/exploration, partially because I’m often focused on Remus or Tonks, partially because there are writers who do him such incredible justice that I’m just in awe of their skill…and it makes me a little lazy, as I feel they’ve got him covered. That’s a terrible excuse, but it’s true. (And he makes me so damned sad. I just…gah.)

25. Favorite line you’ve ever written:

I don’t have a favorite, but I have little scenes I’m very fond of. This might be cheating because they are “lines” rather than a single sentence, but oh well.

“I visited the hags and all I got was this lousy prophecy,” she says, running her fingers over the gauze, careful not to inadvertently touch the wound. “Vaguely, a thing, and from it, perhaps. So sayeth I.”

I like this because a.) Tonks, despite being a witch and inhabiting a world in which almost anything can happen, is making fun of/doubting prophecies delivered by old ladies and b.) she’s doing it in a way that is designed to make Remus laugh while also physically engaging him in a sweet but not overblown fashion. I think it’s kind of a window into their dynamic - Tonks getting him to laugh, teasing him, caring for him, and Remus allowing her into his space and his life, gradually.
