The two finally get to school. In which form will Ranma decide to attend?

Locked in a Room + Soulmates

Amongst Shampoo’s people, there were many tales of how one could find their soulmate. The young warrior had tried to tell herself that her betrothed had met enough of those, and there were in fact one or two points. More than once she’d spotted a rainbow just before seeing Ranma. And she was sure she’d seen magpies on the roof of the Tendo home.

It was all down to getting Ranma for herself. She’d tried for a year, when the incident happened. Suddenly Akane, her greatest rival for Ranma, had a Nannichuan curse. Shampoo was thrilled. Sure, Ranma was trying to be kind to Akane, but Shampoo was sure her love had spilled the water on Akane purposefully. Now she just needed a little time alone with the cursed girl, to prove what happened to Akane.

After a few days of plotting and tracking Akane (and feeling confused by how often Akane was casually spending time as a male), Shampoo found an opportunity to pounce, locking herself and Akane in the drama club storage closet.

Getting up close, Shampoo’s plans began to crumble when she found herself lost in Akane’s eyes for a moment. She swore Akane was the most handsome boy she’d ever seen... Shampoo tried to relaunch her explanation, explaining her vandage point that day, to explain why she had the best view, when she swore the angle of the light briefly turned Akane’s eye’s the same deep crimson as her own. That was one of the signs of a soulmate (not the most popular sign, when brown eyes were so firmly the majority in Shampoo’s village, but other colours were far from unheard of).

Shampoo found herself frozen. Barely thinking, she noticed a large prop rainbow behind Akane, and she realised she’d only seen the rainbows before encountering Ranma if Akane was with him...

But Akane wasn’t who honour said she was to marry. Panicking, she shoved the new boy away from her, letting out a cry of denial, as he stumbled back and collided with the lightswitch.

The windowless storage room was pitch black in an instant. And Shampoo’s world was shattered as the most irrefutable sign revealed itself: she could still see Akane, despite the darkness around. Not quite as clear as day, like the old tales pretended, but far far clearer than the pitch black would have allowed. When Akane mentioned the ability to see Shampoo too, there was not other path available to her.

Shampoo walked forward, grabbing the nervous boy by the shirt, and pulled him in for a kiss.

“Soulmates matter more than honour,” Shampoo explained.
