Box Experiments:
Firstly I used the idea of a TV as a box, as it holds light and restricts the shape of the images and scenes on TV with a rectangular shape. I used my camera to take photos of the TV and experimented with the ISO, shutter speed and F-stops. With the first 2 photographs I used ISO 2000 and shutter speeds of 1 second and F.7.4. I took these images to capture the movement of the actors in the scene and the changing scenes.
Then I used photoshop and considered inverting the colour of the images I took, with focus on the movement of light. The colours turned from dark electric colours to a range of muted colours.
I also experimented with layering the images on top of each other to create a 3D-4D effect. I also used different opacity for the images to add a sense of depth. Lastly, I reconstructed a box by using the images I took. I lessened the opacity of each image in order to see all sides of the box.
From all these experiments I realised the endless possibilities of transforming a ‘box’, especially with the use of photoshop and manipulating these images I took from a TV.
200 Word Statement
When I was given this task, my initial idea was to burn a cardboard box. However, after collecting a variety of boxes from around my house, I decided I should try different things that I would not normally do. I decided to use a mobile phone box. Once I picked out my box, I was still unsure of what to do, so I decided to just go with whatever came to my head, painting the box black. I wanted to paint the box black so that it will be able to cover the pictures that there printed on the front. My second experiment was derived from observing other tumblr blogs. I also really wanted to test and see whether the paint would come off the box when I submerged it in water. My last experiment was to stitch the box together as a quilt/mat.
After a lot of contemplation, I realised the context of the box. In an era where discrimination and bulling still occur, this box is to represent bullying. Hurting a person is harmful because once they goes through crap (water) they may not be able to become what they are meant for. Similar to the box. If I were to reconstruct the box again, I would never use it for its purpose, to carry/hold things.
Box Experiment // Experiment 3 // Sewing the Box Pieces Together
After drying the box pieces from the previous experiment, I decided to make a quilt-type mat as there were a variety of cardboard materials within the box. I stitched the box pieces together with some wool. This material was able to secure the pieces together more tightly than string, which I had used first. Since some of the boxes had crinkled white lines, the overall end piece turned out really well. The end product also resembled a road, which kids might drive their toy cars on.

Statement + Reflection
Experiment #4 - Deforestation In this experiment, I set out to cut up a cardboard box into big rectangular pieces to then create a viewing box, where a powerful image of deforestation was put to showcase its major affects. This image is so powerful as the part of the forest that is cut down has created the shape of a tree, which is very ironic.
Experiment #3 - What is Left
In this experiement, I cut up a box into random shapes using a Stanley knife, I then soaked it in water to soften it, but also showcase what erosion does to the land following deforestation. I then choose to blend it to show what happens after all of this erosion and deforestation to the land. How it is just left in a terrible condition, whereby biodiversity is killed.
