My theory and little story:

Bowser is bad at romance (kidnapping, possessivity, anger issues), but we know he can be a sweet father. -So what is the real problem? Bowser knows delicaty, kindness, and he knows what he is, a gigantic dragon who scares poeple away with one look. (Fear and rejection is the only attention the world gave him. Pretty natural for him to become the monster they see, so nobody can hurt him or his family.)

He belives he cannot be loved, when he think is in love, it's obsession. He will cage the princess away from the world like he is. He keeps her until she sees him as the only one to love, the only light of true happiness, like the way he feels for her. He treats her good, while she's tied. He's trying his best, but he doesnt know better.

Peach is a princess, an object of marriage and power at the time, she understand the sorrow of Bowser. Each time she's kidnaped, she helps him discuss about his worries and issues. One day, Bowser gets it. To thank her and apolagize, he gave up on her, he'll be lonely again, but now he'll try better. Peach is free to go, yet she chose to be friends, because he listen to her too.

Bowser is truly happy since, because that's what he really needed, a friend.

Peach often talks about Mario (crush?), Luigie too. Bowser find things he missed all this years of evil and solitude; Luigie is frele and scared of everything, but he never give up a fight if it's to save someone. He's naive, but children love him, he cares for poeple before himself. He's kind to everyone, even ennemies, because he understand too well fear and pain. He's misunderstood, but he's always kind.

Luigie is the love Bowser needed.♡

Bowser lost his mother because of an abusive father. When the first king died, Kamek took care of little Bowser and their poeple running from human colonizers.

Fic: Bowser never had a wife because of constant conflict against humans. One day, after a victorious battle, young kind Bowser found a dragon egg under the rubble of a cart. Their specie got so rare because of war, the enemy intended to sell it on the human black market for big price. Junior always knew, but Bowser decided to gave him his name and royality, so when he'll die on the battlefield Junior would take back the throne.

Jr- The princess... She shines.

Bowser- Yes... Stronger than a star.

Jr- But Papa... Why her feet are bleeding, is she hurt...?

Bowser- Her pretty shoes were too small, humans like little feet. We'll take care of her, she'll be okay.

Jr- When she's cured, will she be able to run?

Bowser- No, princesses are not allowed to run.

Jr- Oh... She won't play with me, then...?

Bowser- You are such a kind boy, of course she would. We'll let her rest for now.

Bowser ruffles his son's hair, Junior smiles with great hope.

Princess Peach's dress was gorgeous, her corset too tight to breath or talk. Her thin forearms were struck with a wooden stick, her bruises like lines of her good education. She is alone, she is scared, but she has no tears to give, her blood always cries for her.
