While living in Boulder @michaelibarry would ride with his childhood hero, Andy Hampsten, up in the Rockies. On occasion, when snow was falling, they would ride their bikes up the mountain in the dirt roads to the local ski station in Eldora at 2,634 m. There I (Dede) met them with a car and their xc skis so we could get in a few hours of skiing. Andy told Michael it was the long rides in the Colorado mountains in the snow that had helped him through his historic ride in Italy.
