So … this is my new fussy project … revisit. Remember this one? With all the hoarding and shortages, I am wondering what I can do with limited supplies and monies. (pix not mine, just using as visual aides).
I have wood that has seasoned from last years trimmings. I have bottles I have been saving (to make bottle bricks). I wanted to do an art like column in the summer house (a converted sauna house but the walls and sub floor over slab are rotting) on it last year. Things just didn’t work out to finish that project as it came to a grinding halt as more rot presented itself. I have the clear ripple board for the new roof and good size lumber for framing (I wanted to put in a sleeping loft). I also have a variety of old windows that I was going to use as hot box tops but was reconsidering sheet glass in the garden. Some are wood frames with broken glass, causalities of last summer’s ‘cleaning/organizing’ the inside of the carriage house.
Now I am thinking, if I can get the cement without busting the bank, can I combo the glass bottle and cord wood aspects? In theory, yes. In skill and end performance of project, still thinking. Do I have enough other lumber as to support ‘panels’ of cord wood or bottle? Do I need rebar? How sturdy will these be to settling, jolts and what-nots? What about sealing? I had a passing thought of getting broken pallets to use as siding but you guessed it, not one to be found in these days. Business and other’ s would beg people to take them. Now they are not to be had even for a price. Getting cement could be a problem as people are erecting fences like crazy right now. Using cob, not even a consideration with as much rain as we get.
If you have ever built with cord wood or glass bottle, pm or add to post if you don’t mind other’s seeing.
