The Kopeikin Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition of photographers who have made images inspired by the muse that is the City of Los Angeles. The exhibition opens Saturday October 24th with a reception from 6:00- 8:00 pm and runs through December 19th. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
āBoth Sides of Sunsetā is a visually attempted summation of the many facets that can be found within the sprawling city of Los Angeles. From Boyle Heights to Santa Monica beach, this show is inclusive of the various neighborhoods that give L.A. such depth and character. Affluent and impoverished, gritty and glamorous, staged and candid ā views that scratch the surface of the beautiful soul that gives life to such a magnificent place that locals love and outsiders vie to be included in.
People, buildings, and landscape serve as vehicles through which the city is perceived. From the starlets to the unknowns, mansions to the projects, and the hills to the beach. The individual locations, socioeconomic statuses, and architecture are each unique and brilliant on their own, but combined they each add to the very essence of what makes L.A. so loved. It is an intangible feeling of hope, regret. It is the distinct smells of fresh cut grass and hot asphalt and salty air. It is a place where tragedy and supreme happiness coexist to create one of the most incredible cities on Earth. āBoth Sides of Sunsetā aims to capture everything that embodies the City of Angels.
Inspiration for this exhibition comes from the recently published book āBoth Sides of Sunsetā by Marla Hamburg Kennedy and Jane Brown. The show features an eclectic mix of images found within the book as well as others that were carefully selected to strongly compliment the concept.
