This is silly cause none of these characters are real but...
Am I the only one who felt immense pain for Dis after the end of BOTFA?
She lost EVERYONE. She was already a widow. She, I imagine painfully, had to say goodbye to her boys as her brother took them on this journey. They would be gone for years. She had multiple emotions running through her. Hope that her brother would succeed in his task and take back Erebor. Her unending faith and pride in her oldest child, the next in line to be king. Her constant worry for her youngest baby, her heart and soul. When she finally receives word that it is done, she is elated. They've made it to the Lonely Mountain and the dragon is slayed. They've succeeded. All her fears and nightmares cease as she prepares to see them again. To be reunited with those she loves the most.
But it's a reunion that will never come to pass. THIS is what breaks my heart.

Headcanon
Gimli totally grew up with Fili and Kili but was still too young to go on a dangerous quest with his Daddy. After meeting Leggles, the elf introduces him to Tauriel. Through conversation, she find out he knew Kili, and the two spend the rest of the night reminiscing about the Dwarvish Princes and sobbing over the loss of their friends/lover.
