Botanicality 2018 Meet the Jury: Megan Proska Megan is Children’s Adventure Garden and Trials Garden Manager at the Dallas Arboretum. “Growing up,” she says, “my mom had a wonderful garden filled with many flowering plants. When spring arrived I was always outside collecting the petals and drying them or making little bouquets for my teachers at school.” Nowadays, spring means the unveiling of half a million bulbs planted by her team over the month of December, flowers fruit trees and a myriad of other beautiful blooms. Botanicality 2018 Meet the Jury: Dr. Sula Vanderplank Sula Vanderplank is a research botanist who specializes in the flora of Baja California, Mexico. She owns the sole proprietorship SUVA Research (www.suvaresearch.com) and works as a postdoctoral scholar for San Diego State University Research Foundation. She loves the Botanicality art competition because she loves the intersection of disciplines and the creative flair born from the love of nature. Botanicality 2018 Meet the Jury: Kristi Rugg Returning this year is Kristi Rugg, Media Branch Chief at Joshua Tree National Park. What is special about spring in JTNP? “Spring in Joshua Tree is a gorgeous time. For so much of the year the desert seems barren and dry, but in spring everything comes to life. Ocotillo bloom, desert tortoises and snakes are active again, and the park is hopping with visitors. It's an exciting time of life reemerging from the winter chill.” Kristi is currently working with new time lapse equipment to be able to share spring cactus blooms with the public. “They are only open for a short time and I'd like to be able to share their beauty with others.” The above is a snippet of her work in gif form.
