Click to watch the baby shark I just adopted almost ready to hatch! #babySharkAnnouncement So happy!!! I just adopted 4 baby sharks from #SharkLabMalta SharkLab-Malta.Org the best part is they are shark eggs that are rescued from mother sharks that end up in Fish markets in Malta, not for finning but for consumption. There is a study currently going on with affiliates from Croatia about toxins and they are working with the health department hoping to educate and change consumers to help take pressure off sharks and rays/Skates. We met Greg Nowell & Lydia Koehler two very passionate and dedicated individuals spearheading the efforts for sharks and rays around Malta; they get up at 3 in the morning to go to the fish market to rescue baby sharks/egg cases and transport them to tanks where they facilitate "incubation" and growth, quarantine, & then release them & host public events. Adopting a shark means you get an invitation to your sharks release, it's egg case, & your 25€/Shark is helping restore apex predators to a heavily depleted environment that is currently working towards implementing 5 MPA's (marine protected areas.)
