The Great Magic the Gathering Reply Post
First up: Thank you everybody for the advice. It might take a little while to implement it, because I have hidden my magic cards from my self, but when I find them...

I can attest to there being at least two online solutions. Magic: the Gathering Online is the official one and comes with the requisite pricetag; you can buy packs and all same as the physical version. There was an unofficial program that I used to use to play with someone who was at that time a friend, but I can't remember the name of it at the moment and can't check my chatlogs for it until tomorrow. (When I played more heavilyâaround [the first? I think they went back] Mirrodin era, soâit was with friends at school or afterwards and we didn't play Standard. When I went to DCI events it was usually to play Draft, which you might look into too.)  Er, not Booster Draft but Sealed Deck, thinking on it         Â
Thank you for replying! Iâd be interested in hearing about the unofficial one, when you get the chance to check your logs. If possible, Iâd like to avoid juggling a physical and a digital collection, you know? And Iâd like to be playing casually enough that proxies/âproxiesâ and âI own [card] , scoutâs honourâ work.
Iâve had fun with sealed, might have to get back into it. Who knows, maybe I have got better at the things I found difficult about sealed (working out how to evaluate All! The! Cards! and pick a colour, for the most part.)

So core sets currently dont exist, but they realized that was a bad idea so they are returning this upcoming summer. If you want to try to approach standard, do it then. If not, look into modern. It is an eternal format, means nothing rotates out. Its older, so higher power level, but your old decks are most likely 100% legal if you dropped out during ravnica. I too have troubles with edh, so I play mostly in modern. Its worth a look for a store that does modern games.          Â
...I can kinda see the logic of getting rid of core sets, but Iâm glad theyâre reversing that decision. (I always got the impression that as releases they werenât exciting, but having a set of âvanillaâ cards that stayed pretty stable across years was useful. The core sets seemed to be the bread of the peanut butter and jelly sandwhich: not as exciting as the fillings, but important for the structural inegrity.)
And thank you for the suggestion about Modern. My first impression of Modern made it seem complicated and very high power. And while it probably is more complicated and high power than Standard, I think my impression was skewed by the people I knew who played it, who are fairly competitive. Iâll see if any of my local clubs/stores run modern stuff.

I'd say if you want to play constructed play modern. Standard is in a try hardy place right now. Modern lets you do whatever you want as long as you don't mind competing against a wide variety of strategies, some quick and relentless while others can be painful and slow. If you just want to play Magic and have fun I recommend drafting. If you're not sure how to just go to an fnm and ask. It's a lot of fun and people don't have money advantage over you. Or you could just play commander          Â
Does âConstructedâ mean âwith a premade deck,â as opposed to Sealed or Draft? Thank you for the advice about Modern, Iâll go check it out. Especially if it means I can use my old decks. (My old decks are probably below average power as modern decks go, but I donât really mind that.)
