While some cynologists speculate the Xigou is the principal ancestor of all sighthounds known today, others indicate modern stock may have been intermixed in more recent years, pointing to greyhounds shipped to China by the East India Company. They’re a fairly rare breed that has lost popularity due to hunting being outlawed in China, but were a breed treasured by nobility during the Tang Dynasty for a little while. Erlang Shen (the Chinese God of floods, justice, warriorhood, hunting, amongst others)’s companion is believed to resemble a Xigou. Not only are they probably near impossible to procure if you don’t live in Asia, but they’re also a bit difficult to research 😔 Laika has seen someone say they make good guard dogs and have a tendency to nip at ankles, and can be rather aloof to strangers, but should not be left to their own devices for long amounts of time because inactivity bores them. Star would not know, star does not own one.
