I wonât lie to you: Kirishima and Bakugouâs interactions are perhaps some of my favourites to come out of the series. Iâll never get over how Kirishima went from assuming Bakugou was some violent asshole to realising that his mindset and aspirations are actually incredibly heroic ( at least, Bakugouâs view of heroic ) and practical. Bakugou possesses a lot of what Kirishima aspires towards/wishes he had. Confidence, an incredibly strong quirk that he has near-perfect mastery over, a drive to win that is unparalleled, an ultimate goal. Kirishima is starting to find his feet and figure out what kind of hero he wants to be, and a lot of that is in part thanks to Bakugou ( of course, heâs not the only influence in his life, but heâs certainly one of the biggest and brightest ).
All of that being said, despite Kirishimaâs admiration of him, I love that he never shies away from calling him out or teasing him. Heâs never once been afraid of Bakugouâs âoutburstsâ because he knows that heâd never intentionally harm someone. He understands that Bakugouâs a good guy beneath all the anger and frustration, but he wonât take any of his shit.
I donât subscribe to the fanon notion that Kirishima is Bakugouâs handler. Have people been reading the same manga? Theyâre equals. Friends. Kirishima isnât trying to stand above Bakugou, but nor will he stand below him either. He wants to be on level ground with him, to be his partner, a friend. I do feel like heâs a really excellent balancing force in Bakugouâs life, not that he needs to be mellowed and not that itâs Kirishimaâs job to mellow him, but thereâs that lack of feelings of inferiority ( at least, not as bad as it once was from Kirishimaâs perspective ) in their friendship.
I talked about it with a friend once, but I feel like Kirishima was from the start what Midoriya and Bakugou could have been ( and are steadily working towards over the course of the manga ), just without the competitive rivalry the two of them have these days haha! However, that doesnât mean Kirishima isnât still aspiring to reach Bakugouâs level of heroism and strength. He does still feel like he has a long way to go before he can proudly stand as his equal in terms of a Hero.
With all of this in mind, I think itâs clear to see that their friendship is something Iâd love to explore haha!
Oof. Now, this is an exciting one. Toshinori is still learning what it means to be a teacher and a mentor, so there are a lot of times where he falls short of the mark. Bakugou is such a complex, unique character that Toshinori doesnât always quite grasp the depth and source of his emotions ( due to initially seeing and learning about Bakugou through his interactions with Midoriya ), but not for lack of trying. Once he sees beyond his aggression and understands his feelings of inferiority when it comes to Midoriya, a lot of things change. He understands Bakugouâs drive, sees his passion and determination, comes to understand that heâs a very prideful boy doing his best to grow and achieve his goals after a string of humiliating defeats.
He genuinely believes in Bakugou, he knows without a shadow of a doubt that heâs going to become a stunning Hero when he finally debuts and heâll do whatever it takes to support him on his journey. Evidently, he trusts him a great deal, too. The fact that heâs willing to share the secret of One For All and Midoriyaâs involvement with him speaks volumes. I believe he does this for several reasons: to bring Bakugou comfort in his perceived beliefs that he brought about the end of his Pro Hero career, to help push him towards even greater developments, but also give Bakugou and Midoriya a gentle push towards mending the gruesome rift between them, as he believes that their development is intertwined and that theyâll push one another to become even better Heroes through their rivalry.
All of that aside, Toshinori certainly has a personal stake in Bakugouâs development, even if itâll never be to the same degree as with Midoriya. Heâs invested in him, heâs constantly proud of seeing his growth and heâll always root for him as a person and a Hero. He truly is the embodiment of Dad Might when it comes to his kids, and thatâll be no different with Bakugou.
BASICALLY. Iâd love to explore the intricacies of their relationship. I think Bakugou could very well ( if he hasnât already ) inspire Toshinori in ways we havenât seen yet and Iâm *grabby hands* in need.
