One thing that really pisses me off is when people act like Jack and Maddie Fenton would betray Danny for being a ghost. In the show, they’ve found out about his identity multiple times and instantly accepted him every time. Suggesting that they’d do anything else like hand him over to the GIW or experiment on him is simply ooc.
If you need a reason they aren’t there in your fanfic, make it an accurate one. Like, their house is one giant OSHA violation. Or, if you want to make them criminals, have them tear up a GIW base or something once they realize how much of a danger the GIW are to Danny.
Like, they may be very eccentric but they’re also GENIUSES. And they absolutely do NOT play when it comes to their family. They may be oblivious, and even neglectful at times when they get caught up in their experiments and research, but they are NOT unloving parents.
Between the constant physical affection from Jack and the many “honey”s and “sweetheart”s Maddie addresses her kids with, AND their extreme overprotectiveness when it comes to Danny and Jazz, you can NOT be looking me dead in the eyes and telling me their kids aren’t their entire world. Madeline and Jackson Fenton would move Heaven and Earth for their kids and I will die on this hill. They definitely have things they need to fix regarding their parenting so their kids are safer in their house, but they’re also some of the most loving parents I’ve seen in general media.
YOU CAN MAKE THEM VILLAINS. BUT MAKE THEM VILLAINS THAT LOVE THEIR CHILDREN. GIVE THEM SOME MORE RESPECT.
And if you’re gonna go the whole misunderstanding route where they think it’s not really Danny or something, I raise you this. They don’t listen to Danny’s beliefs on ghosts because they believe they’re way more qualified as professional ectoscientists. They become WAY more open minded when they realize Danny IS in fact qualified and knows his shit, because he IS half ghost. They aren’t as stubborn as people make them out to be. They just need valid reasonings as to why others’ opinions are valid and have merit to them. They consider Danny’s predicament as a legitimate possibility and find out their son is in fact half dead.
If you’re trying to make them ooc, or you don’t care, then fine. But if you’re trying to capture their actual characters, keep this stuff in mind. Jack and Maddie Fenton are LOVING parents, and their kids are their WORLD.
