Happy Halloween! This is the Villa Diodati in Switzerland where in 1816, the idea for Frankenstein was conceived by Mary Shelley while there with her husband Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Polidori. Scary tales were exchanged, Mary wrote Frankenstein and Polidori produced The Vampyre, the first modern vampire story. We made this set for a client who wanted an entire bookcase full of books that referenced the year 1816! -------------- Born from a ghost story and now considered the first piece of science fiction, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is still one of the spookiest tales to get lost in. A great Halloween read. Shelly's work is also deemed a groundbreaking illustration of biological principles unnamed at the time of her writing. Competitive exclusion, invasive species.
