Mission: Romance Her! (Part 1/2)
Yandere Book Character X Isekaiâd Reader
You had always been pretty average in life, you had a loving family, good grades and now a stable 9-5 office job. While you wouldnât say it was boring per se, you had a very ordinary life representative of a 21st century middle class worker, equivalent to a worker bee in a hive. The most fun youâd had in life, was reading those romanticized stories of love in your middle to high school days. It was an imaginative experience and it also helped you realize pretty early on that you werenât straight. That didnât change the fact that most of the earlier of the cheesy love stories you had read were very much heterosexual. You used to read to escape from the truth that really you were just an ordinary Jane. You had dreamed of being someone special, the chosen one, from all the media you consumed as a kid. The world of books tended to be so much more engaging. You remembered classmates making fun of you for being in your books, but it didnât bother you as long as you were happy. Shockingly, or maybe not that shocking, you still held onto this hobby religiously even as an adult. Sure, you werenât as imaginative and as excited as your younger days of glory but you were still as much of an avid reader as you were.
The truth is, sometimes you got so deeply attached to a story that you would neglect your real life connections and even your parents sometimes. You had tried to stop reading multiple times but really it was to no avail. Eventually you just gave up on most of those relationships, after all books were just better, they didnât need to you to provide emotional support. This was especially true after your first girlfriend cheated on you despite you believing at the time that she was the one. Real life love proved disappointing, so you turned back to the perfect fictional love stories. But life can play cruel jokes on you.
One morning as you were headed to work, pumped full of caffeine after another night spent reading, you ended up crashing your car. And bam, thats all you can remember from your life, or maybe last life now that you might be dead? Well at least thatâs what you assume from the pitch blackness that surrounds you at this very instant. Then out of nowhere a slit opened in the vast space, and from it emerged this strange little robot thing. You recoiled from the shock of it beeping, only to then be graced by this robotic voice.
âHello and welcome, Host! I am a transmigration system who grants rewards when you accomplish missions. My name is B12-OP7-B7ML, but I go by B-O-B for short, or Bob!â The little screen flashed a cute pixelated smile, as it waved an arm at you. You were flabbergasted.
âYou have been chosen for a mission! If you succeed this mission, then you will be able to wake up from the coma you fell into after the car crash and reunite with your family. This is your reward because according to the progression of your world, you should never be able to wake up from the coma. So Host, do you accept?â So you were dead, but not really? Itâs true when they say you never appreciate what you have until you lose it, you had never felt so much guilt for having neglected your friends and family all these years, only to not be able to even properly say goodbye.
âIâll take your silence as a yes! Your mission will be to change the tragic ending of the main antagonist and villainess, Scarlet, from the romance book, âThe Real Heiress Returnsâ!â You knew that story, it was, in fact, the first romance book you had ever read, way before you realized you were as straight as a bent ruler.
The story was pretty simple, the female lead, Tina, was the true daughter to the rich Carlisle family, who had accidentally been swapped at birth with the supporting female character, Quinn. It was about how Tina made her way back to reclaim what was âhersâ, of course this was a romance book, so it was also with the help of the male lead, Peter who was from the Bach family, also rich and close friends with the Carlisle family. Tinaâs birth parents find her after Quinn gets diagnosed with a rare congenital disease that they do not have the genes for and they realize that Quinn and Tina were accidentally swapped at birth. Basically, Quinn used to have a huge crush on Peter and then all of a sudden sheâs no longer the real heiress to her familyâs fortune and Peter falls head over heals with Tina who is supposedly the true heiress, so she canât take it and tries her best to act against her and sheâs painted as this evil sister. Which is why Tina needs to âtake back whats rightfully hersâ from Quinn.
Now the question was where does this villainess Scarlet fit in? Well sheâs cousins with Peter and used to have a huge crush on Quinn, but obviously Quinn is only into the male lead Peter, so when she confessed she got rejected. But she took it with grace, what really cemented her as the main antagonist was how after Tina and Peter defeated Quinn and caused her to die alone from her congenital disease in a cold hospital room with no friends and family, she got pissed on behalf of Quinn and basically started competing with Peter to inherit the Bach familyâs wealth from their grandmother, which she won by the way. And she basically did a lot of stuff to make the main leads lives miserable. Of course, she was defeated in the end and she spent the rest of her life in a mental hospital, devoid of human respect and dignity. She was really a pitiful character and when you first read the book you had felt horrible for her, that she was robbed of a happy ending, after all you loved her character. She was your first gay awakening, the first ever lesbian character you had ever seen in a book.
âSo? Can you accomplish this mission Host?â The little robotâs voice brought you back from your reminiscing. A second chance in life for helping your favorite villainess character have a happy ending? Hell yeah!
âSo what do I need to do?â You needed to get more details on this mission to accomplish it wonderfully. âHost, to accomplish your mission, you must fulfill 2 requirements: 1) You must help her move on from Quinnâs death and give up the revenge that will ultimately lead to her downfall. 2) You must give her a happy ending by marrying her.â Bob explains the requirements for a mission accomplished. You feel a little burdened after all, you hadnât ever gotten married before how were you going to make this work? But oh well youâre gonna need to wing it if you want to make it back to your world alive. âOkay! I got it, I'm sure Iâll succeed, send me in, Bob!â You puffed out your chest and raised your chin high up to gather the courage to fulfill this mission.
âŚ
Before you knew it, you were sitting in a well decorated bedroom, and in front of you was a computer, it looked suspiciously like Bob. And just as you thought that, the screen light up on its own and started typing out sentences to you.
Host, in this world, I will take on the form of a computer. You will be able to check up with me through this form. To make sure you fit into the world of the book âThe Real Heiress Returnsâ, I have given you the identity of a very unimportant side character in the book. Her name is Jill Carlisle, and she is the cousin of Tina Carlisle. In the original story, she was barely mentioned, only as a childhood friend of Quinn and then she went studying abroad after her parents died in a plane crash. Now you will be able to use this body to accomplish your mission. Also, I almost forgot! I have a favorability bar option, where you get to see the favorability different characters have towards you in the world. It can help you with your relationship with Scarlet Bach.
You were curious so you clicked in to check the starting favorability of each character:
|Scarlet Bach : 0%| |Tina Carlisle : -15%| |Peter Bach : -5%| âŚ
And the list went on, but really the only one you needed to care about was Scarlet. Most of these were reasonable like Scarlet doesnât know you, Tina and Peter dislike Quinn and you were friends with Quinn. Oh well now you needed to get to socializing and the first place to go, according to the system, is to go visit Jillâs uncle and aunt, Tinaâs parents after the return.
âŚ
After a long week of interacting and pretending to be pitiful because your âparentsâ are dead, your uncle and aunt really feel responsibility to take you in for the instant since you just came back from abroad and you donât really have friends or family around. Which is great because now itâll be much easier to get into these evening parties for rich folk, which you have no idea what it should be like except for the stereotypical descriptions found in cheesy romance books, but itâll be your best chance to pretend to ârandomlyâ bump into Scarlet and then make friends. You had studied her features from Bobâs database to make sure youâd recognize her from a mile away. Her face was really magnificent, even more so than you had imagined before. With Bobâs help, you had successfully located yourself in the timeline of the story. Good news, Quinn only died about a year ago so Scarlet hasnât enacted her revenge plan yet. Bad news, she already fought and won the inheritance to the Bach family, which means sheâs very much in a position to make life hard for the main leads. Not that you cared for them really, but it was a mission requirement. Luckily for you, you were about to make your entrance in her life, after all you had just been invited to one of these parties by proxy, since it was Tina who was invited but her parents made her take you along. âŚ
The ball was extravagant to say the least, it was also full of these stereotypical arrogant snobby rich people. It wasnât too surprising after all, this was an old cheesy romance story from the 2000s. The grand ballroom featured multiple grand chandeliers and it was stunning to say the least. If the people werenât all these snobby materialistic scum, it would have been much better. But hey, at least it made it much easier for you to distinguish the important characters in the story, since they actually had personalities that werenât limited to âsnobby old money rich personâ. It didnât take you long to find Scarlet in the crowd, after you had walked around and introduced yourself left and right, you saw her in a corner of the ball, sipping from a glass of champagne. She looked magnificent, the way the lighting of the ballroom hit just the right angles of her face and her pristine suit. It was a white suit with a black dress shirt inside, and she rocked the look wonderfully. She had a pair of these silver rimmed glasses, they really elevated the look of the Bach Heiress. And of course in this cheesy old romance book, she was the only woman in that gigantic room in a suit, gender norms were absolute it seemed. Had you realized beforehand it wouldâve have been much easier to find her. You grabbed a glass of champagne from the platter of a waiter, your first of the night, and braced yourself to make a good first impression.
âHello, youâve caught my attention! In this ball full of superficial niceness, you actually seem to be a straightforward person.â You flashed her your best convincing smile. Oh god that was cringe, what were you thinking, of all the things you could have said, really? But you couldnât let that show, at least not in front of her. âIâm Scarlet, how about you?â She was amused if anything that anyone even approached her today. Also, you just realized you didnât even ask for her name! You were totally being a loser in front of this hot woman. âUh, right! My name is, uh, itâs Jill!â Crap, you almost forgot your fake name. You quickly readjusted your expression back to one of certainty. Did you sound too excited? Are you gonna scare her away? Is this mission already over? Would she think youâre a weirdo or a creep- âNice to meet you, Jill. What brings you to Mr. Hoffmanâs year end ball?â She smiled, it seemed you had just humored her? Thank goodness she didnât think you were weird. âRight, I came because I was looking for something intriguing in life. My lifeâs just been boring and depressing recently. And look at my luck, I stumbled across you! I think Iâm in love.â You did your best dreamy stare at her but you were really just unfocusing your eyes so youâd look like you were fazing out at her face. âWould you give me the honor to get to know you better?â Then you used all the acting you had in you to muster up to courage to flash her a confident smile and offered your hand for her to hold. You were really a cheesy mess it seemed, any woman in real life wouldâve either laughed at you or ran away into the crowd by now. Luckily for you, youâre in a romance novel right now, which means anything romantic is like statistically 99% more likely to work. âIâll give you a chance, Jill.â She seemed genuinely pleased by your little speech, maybe she sympathized with you, after all her lifeâs been a mess recently too with Quinn dying and all.
âŚ
You donât even know how much time you spent talking to her that night, it was a blackout after your second glass of champagne, how did you even get drunk on champagne!? It seemed Jillâs body wasnât used to alcohol at all. You woke up the nest morning with a slight headache, in your new residence, a luxurious guest room at the Carlisle estate. Apparently, Scarlet sent you home after you got drunk, you have no recollection whatsoever of what happened, but thatâs what your aunt and uncle said. After you dealt with the headache, the first thing you did was open up your system, now a MacBook computer for convenience, and check the favorability level of Scarlet:
|Scarlet Bach : 30%| Congratulations Host! You are getting closer to the mission goal, you will soon be able to return to your world and reunite with your family.
Her favorability shot to 30%!!! What did you even tell her during your drunken stupor? That she was absolutely gorgeous? If only you could recall what you said, youâd be able to use it in real life later. Whatever, what were you even thinking, this is great, now you just need to find a way to worm yourself in her life. Thankfully for you, the system could give you a schedule of all her events and the locations. You basically had a cheat sheet to keep âbumping into herâ from time to time.
âŚ
It was a rainy day, and this was an important date to Scarletâs character, it was on this day, at the cemetery where Quinn was buried that Scarlet would swear an oath to take revenge for her. You needed to prevent this from happening pronto. After your last few encounters, you had successfully raised her favorability bar to 50%, so it was now time you had to put that favorability to the test. You had arrived by taxi, and you remembered to take an umbrella. As you walked around the cemetery looking for her, you spotted her shadow from afar. She didnât even take an umbrella today, she just stood there in the distance, silently like she was accompanying someone. She must be soaked by now. You quickly made your way to her and placed your umbrella in a way you could share it with her. âI didnât think Iâd see you here again of all places. Did you also know Quinn?â You feigned surprised, after all today was Quinnâs birthday so it made sense for you to be here as a childhood friend. You also placed your bouquet of pink tulips, Quinnâs childhood favorite flower, in front her tombstone, where Scarlet had already placed a bouquet of white lilies. When you looked back up at Scarlet, she was solemnly staring back, a little confused. âI did⌠itâs a long story, but I didnât know you also knew her? I had my people do a background check on you after the ball, donât take it personally, I⌠Iâve always had trust issues, but they told me you just came back from abroad.â She was really down today. Even her speech lost some of its charm. âWe were childhood friends, and sheâs my cousin. We used to play together all the time, and then my parents were in a plane crash and they both passed. My grandparents decided to send me to study abroad, and I recently came back. You can imagine my shock when I learnt that not only was Quinn dead, but my aunt and uncle had also abandoned her for this Tina that came out of nowhere.â You made sure you conveyed the right emotions as you spoke looking softly at her, you needed to prepare the stage for your show. After interacting with her multiple times after the ball, youâd finally gotten over the pure raw awkwardness and self doubt. âIâm sure she wouldâve been happy to see you again. Youâre unlike the other cold blooded Carlisles, who left her to die alone on her death bed.â Her eyes finally seemed to come back to life, they went from a cold stagnant ash to a bright burning blaze. She was enraged, and this would be where she decides in the original story to promise sheâd get Quinn her revenge. Even though she already wanted to before, this was the event that cemented her to become the villainess and keep causing problems for the leads. You needed to stop this, right now. âIâm sure sheâs already forgiven them, Quinn was never one to hold grudges, she said it changed people in bad ways. When my parents died, she made me promise to let go of the hatred I had in that moment against the world. She told me it would ruin my life. She was right, letting go of that anger was freeing.â You pat Scarletâs back as you said this to make sure the message got to her. Quinn obviously never said this, but how would she know you were making things up. âI⌠I guess sheâs right.â She staggered, and the blazing flame of rage in her eyes faded out. She looked at you and for the first time today, she smiled at you, a genuine smile. âThank you, Jill.â
âŚ
After these past few months of hard work, you had finally gotten her favorability up. Youâd shown up to the Bach estate as a surprise with a handmade cake for her birthday, clapped and cheered for her at her careerâs best moments, and even taken care of her during a cold. You were still âfriendsâ but her favorability was far beyond that already. As you checked on Bob:
|Scarlet Bach : 90%| Host! You have completed requirement 1), helping Scarlet get over Quinnâs death and give up the revenge that will lead to her downfall, you now only have to complete requirement 2) to accomplish your mission and return home!
âŚ
Today was no different, or so you had thought. You had barely woke up only to be surprised by none other than Scarlet. She had made her way to the Carlisle Estate just so she could get you to go somewhere. Apparently it was really important. The whole car ride she was smiling at you and she tried to make really awkward small talk the whole time. Then when you had arrived, the estate was completely dark. And then, BOOM! The lights went on and everyone you knew in this world was here and when you turned around, Scarlet held out a necklace. âJill, sweetheart, over the past few months, I have realized that Iâve fallen in love with you. Will you become my girlfriend?â She looked nervous but overjoyed to even be asking. On the side, there were your aunt and uncle, Tina and Peter (yes, you befriended them both in your free time), and a bunch of other rich folk you made friends with at parties. They were all smiling and it seemed they were all in on it. The atmosphere, the beautiful decoration of the space and the people in it made you feel, for the first time after coming into this world, a real sense of family. But it was only for a moment. âIâd love to, Scarlet.â As Scarlet put on this beautiful rose gold necklace she had personally designed for you, you smiled happily on the outside, but inside, you remembered that your family, your real family was waiting for you to wake up from your coma. The family you had pushed aside all these years. You knew you had to make it up to them once you returned, you had missed way too many of these moments with them. Everyone around seemed pleased, after all the Carlisles and the Bachs have been affiliated for a long time and now two pairs of couples had been created. Tina and Peter popped two expensive champagne bottles and everyone got a drink to celebrate. âI love you, sweetheart.â Scarlet picked up your hands and pressed a kiss on the back of your hands. She was happy and it did help you forget about the guilt of your real life, your first book crush has just asked you to be her girlfriend, you blushed, for real. âI love you too.â
âŚ
After you finally became girlfriends with Scarlet, you had now entered the stage where you simply needed to wait for marriage. Tina and Peter had gotten engaged a while back and were going to get married soon. You were excited to soon be able to go home. As much as you did like Scarlet, she was just a book character in the end, your family was waiting for you. You were checking the favorability bars again for fun :
|Scarlet Bach : 100%| |Tina Carlisle : 60%| |Peter Bach : 50%|
Wow, I have to be honest with you Host, I have helped multiple other hosts complete their missions of making a character fall in love. This is the first time someoneâs reached 100%. Most of the characters would stop at 85-95%. Iâve even had a host who managed to propose successfully with barely 63% in the favorability bar. Iâm not too sure what 100% means⌠or even if itâs necessary⌠I might need to dig deeper into system files to know.
Oh well, it was an interesting fact to know, but it probably wasnât all that important, it just means that now getting married will be easy-peasy, right?
