Do you prefer classic candy canes or fun flavored candy canes? 🎄We have to go with the classic, especially when it's made out of books! 📚
Wishing a warm and happy Christmas Eve to everyone celebrating! 🎄 If you need us, we'll be hanging by the Bookmas Tree looking for our next favorite read. 💕
How to Build a Bookmas Tree
There’s only one thing better than finding books underneath the tree: a tree that is MADE of books! 📚🎄
This season, we channeled holiday cheer and built a Christmas tree out of our favorite books - check out some behind-the-scenes of how we did it!
STEP 1: GATHER YOUR BOOKS
You’re going to need quite a few books to make up a tree - we used about 77 books! Definitely pile as many books as you can ahead of time. Stick to mostly hardcovers, but paperbacks are useful for closer to the top of the tree.
STEP 2: ARRANGE YOUR BOOKS
If you have multiples of books like we did, arrange them by title so that you can be sure to spread them out throughout the tree. You don’t want to have large sections of the same book! Identify your heaviest books and make sure to put those towards the base of the tree.
STEP 3: CREATE A BASE
In order to create a perfectly symmetrical and sturdy tree, you need a good base. Find a box to put in the middle and begin your first few rows around it!
STEP 4: BUILD, BUILD, BUILD!
As you build, be sure to take some steps back to make sure that you like the shape. Every few rows, reduce the number of books. Don’t be afraid to take down a row and try again if you need to! We did this a few times.
STEP 5: DECORATE!
Just like a real Christmas tree, a Bookmas Tree will look even more stunning with some lights and decor! You can get as creative as you like with this step with garland, ornaments, and more.
STEP 5: LET THERE BE LIGHT!
The lighting of the Bookmas Tree is the culmination of all of your hard work. Make sure to gather some friends for this momentous occasion!
STEP 6: ENJOY!
Now it’s time for the best part of all: enjoying the tree you’ve worked so hard to build. Check out our finished tree! 🎄

Musings on What We Mean By "Book"
Musings on What We Mean By “Book”
Does this child with a book remind you of any other images of a reading child?
I’ve read several articles recently that have me musing on what we mean by “book,” and why our books are configured as they are.
Tablets and scrolling are not new things in terms of recording human words. Narratives carved in stone of everything from legal texts to grocery lists have survived millenia. At one time,…
