It had been too long since Jim had seen the light of day with his own eyes, felt its warmth on his skin instead of on his fur. He could hardly remember what it felt like, but as he watched the sunrise begin through the window of his room the sadness and longing wasnāt for than the sun. Jim looked down at the Great Dane as it snoozed in his lap. How many years had it been since he had been able to simply kiss the man he loved? He had long since lost track, no longer able to even begin to count. The curse laid upon both of by a jealous goddess had yet to be broken no matter how hard they had tried.
All Jim had wanted was to stay true to man whoād taken his heart, but of course a demigod denying a goddess was an insult. How dare he not accept the offer of someone as above him as her? Even if his father was Apollo, his mother was still human and Aphrodite showing interest him shouldāve had Jim dropping to his knees. It didnāt. The blond only had eyes for Athenaās only son and minor god of medicine, his Bones. When Aphrodite learned of the love the two men shared her fury only grew and if hasnāt been for Bonesā mother interfering, theyāre fate may have been far worse. This way they just could never hold each other, kiss, or make love for they were never in human form at the same time.
As Jimās fingers stroked through Bonesā fur, the sun finally started to peak out from over the horizon. It would only be a matter of moments before the roles were reversed. With a soft sigh and a kiss to the top of the dogās forehead, Jim shifted Bones off his lap so he could stand. āCāmon Bonesy, itās time to get up. Youāve only got until sunset, enjoy the sun for me.ā A moment later and Jim was on four legs with a tail, hopping back onto the bed to lick at Bonesā now human face. He always felt the worst every time they changed.
