What really killed it for me, though, was (perhaps predictably) that they mainly resolved the years of romantic tension offscreen, the writer or showrunner (I don't remember which one any more tbh) defended doing so with stupid patronizing arguments, and then the aftermath was just. boring. I watched a little after that, and just couldn't buy into it :( :(

just had one of those whiplash memories of an episode of bones (a show i watched for the secondary couple and Autism until a part of the secondary couple turned out to be islamophobic, at which point i just jumped ship lol) where they meet a non-binary scientist and they spend half the episode obsessively and intrusively trying to discern the NBS's primary/secondary sex characteristics so they can decide what NBS ACTUALLY is and i am incredibly uncomfortable again. that was a wild show huh

i'm at home sick and binging bones and i really wish they dug up this show and remade it with fun improvements such as

• what if a supposedly highly intelligent and observant anthropologist was actually shown to be a highly intelligent and observant anthropologist in fun little ways such as being able to analyse, deduce and mimic the absolute most fucking basic of societal rituals or linguistic conventions rather than being a caricature of what a really dumb person thinks a really intelligent person should be like

• what if sensible and tame views such as "invest in clean energy" were not treated as wild conspiracy theories

• (what if this time somebody left a cute lil post-it on hodgins desk that read HEY DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE A GAZILLIONAIRE AND CAN INVEST IN CLEAN ENERGY YOURSELF?!)

• what if the male protagonist was replaced by a potted plant or any other similar vast improvement on its original lobotomised Neanderthalean misogynistic hypocritical jerkfest fuckboy

• and many more!!
