The Montreal Museum will likely be the loser in this cavalier dismissal. Nathalie Bondil may not be my kind of woman, however she was a force to reckon with. And she had a soft heart, let me explain. Second-hand anecdote: I had a quirky pair of cute aging queeny neighbours. One was curmudgeonly and his partner, a social butterfly from the world of theater. I often had them over, and cooked meat pies especially for them. They were so funny. Getting to Bondil, they happened upon her in Chicago, struck an easy rapport and she let them into an exclusive exhibit launch as her guests. The less curmudgeonly one raved about her to me for days. All this to say, the art world rides a lot on personality. The museum is facing more lockdown ahead with the virus' second wave. Who do they think could bring the throngs back, if not the woman who tripled its attendance? This isn't how you thank someone who poured herself into the museum's success for 20 years.
