Amazon MGM Takes Creative Control of James Bond, Marking the End of Family-Led Era
Amazon MGM has taken creative control of the James Bond franchise, ending decades of family-led oversight. Longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are stepping back, though they will co-own Bond’s intellectual property with Amazon MGM.
Wilson, retiring after nearly 60 years, cited a focus on art and charity, while Broccoli plans to pursue other projects. Since Amazon acquired MGM in 2022 for $6.1 billion, tensions over Bond’s future have stalled the next installment.
This marks the first time in over 60 years that a Broccoli won't greenlight a Bond film. Amazon MGM also plans to expand the franchise beyond movies, raising concerns among fans about potential streaming spin-offs.
