To właśnie w tym miejscu wielu śmiałków spełniło swoje marzenia o prędkości. Jednym z nich był Jeff Brock, twórca samochodu 1952 Buick “Bombshell Betty” Super Riviera. Rekordowa maszyna została właśnie wystawiona na sprzedaż.
1952 Buick “Bombshell Betty” Super Riviera powstał około 2008 roku, a od 2009 roku brał udział w kolejnych edycjach Tygodnia Prędkości w Bonneville. Po raz ostatni nietypowy pojazd wystartował w 2013 roku, ustanawiając rekord prędkości dla swojej klasy, wynoszący 266,7 km/h.

Rok później Bombshell Betty trafiła w ręce Petera Lika, który postanowił wystawić samochód na sprzedaż. Cena wywoławcza – 195 000 dolarów. Jak na taki pojazd jest to całkiem przystępna cena, ale jest pewien haczyk. Samochód pod żadnym pozorem nie nadaje się do jazdy po normalnych drogach i nie ma szans aby to zmienić.
1952 Buick “Bombshell Betty” Super Riviera to jak sama nazwa wskazuje Buick z 1953 roku, ale bardzo mocno przerobiony. Przód pochodzi z Chevy Vana z 1968 roku, tył pochodzi natomiast z Ford Thunderbirda z 1973 roku. Pod maską znajduje się natomiast 5,2-litrowy silnik V8.

Wnętrze dostosowano rzecz jasna do bicia rekordów prędkości – pozostawiono jedynie fotel kierowcy i wskaźniki. Całe nadwozie dodatkowo wzmocniono i wyposażono w klatkę bezpieczeństwa.

Are you scared? I know I am, ’cause this 1952 Buick Riviera, affectionately dubbed “Bombshell Betty”, is looking more menacing than I could have ever imagined. This thing is a six-time land speed world record holder, and it’s price tag is quite similar to the one of a 2016 Porsche 911 Turbo S.
Still, nothing can compare to the unique design and overall vibe of this incredible vehicle. The once 1952 Buick is worth more than a sum of money; it has a certain value collectors and petrol-heads definitely appreciate. Bombshell Betty shows off various custom components that keep it far away from its classic days as a Buick.
It comes packed with a race harmonic balancer from an Oldsmobile, the dynamic front end from a 1968 Chevy Van, and the rear was sourced from a 1973 Ford Thunderbird. Underneath, you’ll find a a 340-hp 5.2-liter engine that used to power up a 1950 Buick Roadmaster.
This may as well be Frankenstein’s car, with Betty packing an early 60’s Borg Warner T-10 manual four-speed transmission, while the clutch and brake hydraulics come courtesy of Wilwood and the Competition/Plus shifter made by Hurst. That unrefined Gotham City-style look was achieved by taking the roof off and lowering it by 8″ – I have to say I love how that looks. Bombshell Betty has topped out at 165.735 mph (266.7 km/h), at Bonneville in 2013. How awesome is that?

Like many properties in Española, Jeff Brock’s yard is filled with old, beat-up cars, many of which haven’t run in decades…But a few do, like Bombshell Betty, a 1952 Buick Super Riviera that holds several U.S. land speed records.
Brock has pushed the souped-up vehicle to an average of 165.7 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, a record for its class.

I've had the chance to take the in person workshop with Betty and it was a fantastic experience. She doesn't do a lot of traveling anymore, so if you can't make it to San Francisco, this may be the next best thing.
