Mokokoma Mokhonoana

On this day—September 23rd, 1985—This Nation’s Saving Grace, the eighth studio album by the Fall, was released. One of the idiosyncratic post-punk band’s best (and most accessible) albums, it was initially quite well received by the UK press. However, the band’s music—odd, angular, and antagonistic—never found much of an audience in the US and remains to this day something of an acquired taste. Retrospectively, the album is now counted among the best of the 80s and as The Guardian put it the album shows the band “operating just on the edge of the mainstream and at the peak of their accessibility and yet strangeness”.
